Instruction Guide
INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the GME TX650 Compact UHF Radio. These instructions should be used in conjunction with the supplied instruction guide and is to be used as a quick reference guide. All Warning and Safety information should be observed and L & W Sports Communications Pty Ltd will not be liable for any injury arising from the incorrect use of this product.
GETTING STARTED
Familiarize yourself with the basic functions of the GME TX650. Before using the units please refer to the supplied manual and charge the units using the supplied battery charger.
(NB: the TX650 uses an internal Lithium Ion battery that is pre-installed. Do not attempt to change or remove this battery as this will void your warranty and may damage your radio).
SETTING UP YOUR RADIO
Menu Mode
All adjustments must be made using the Menu Mode Button. Each press of the Mode button steps the radio sequentially through the functions. When using your radio for the first time you must ensure that all advanced functions are turned off. This is achieved by pressing the Mode button and then using the ▲ and ▼buttons to turn each function to the off setting. (NOTE: The CA setting cannot be turned off and the PO setting is Lo.) Confirm the settings by waiting 5 seconds or pressing the PTT button located on the left hand side of the unit.
Channel Selection
To change the radio channel press the Mode button and the channel number will flash. Use the ▲ and ▼ buttons to select the desired channel. L & W Sports recommends using channels 9 to 30 (excluding channels 22 and 23 as these are Telemetry Channels). Other channels are used as Emergency Channels ( 5 and 35) repeater ( 1 to 8 and 31 to 38) and call channels (11). Increased traffic on these channels may affect your communications.
USE OF CTCSS
Where excessive interference exists on the standard channels, the use of the CTCSS function will prevent other transmissions from radios using a different CTCSS. To activate the CTCSS Function press the Mode Button twice. The 'CTC' will flash and then select a sub channel using the ▲and ▼ buttons. (ALERT: When using CTCSS all radios must be on the same sub channel to allow for 2-way communication).
Other great features of the GME TX 650 include:
If you are using the transmitters for continuous transmission (Open Microphone), ensure the unit is set on LOW power. If HI power is used the battery will not last longer than 60 minutes.
HEADSET AND BELT PLACEMENT
1. Plug the L & W Sports Communication Headset into the top of the TX650. Ensure the plug is fully inserted into the unit.
2. Check that the unit is set on the correct channel (and sub channel if applicable) and the lock the unit. This is done by pressing and holding the "scan" button (located on the left front side of the unit), until the padlock key symbol appears in the display screen.
NB: Volume adjustment can still be made whilst the unit is locked.
3. Place the unit into the L & W Sports Communications neoprene backpack (or vest) and place the belt around the waist at the level of the mid-abdomen. This will ensure that the unit sits in the "small" of the back giving maximum comfort to the user.
4. Attach the water resistant activation switch to the backpack. Place the wiring under your shirt and attach the lapel microphone to the collar or front vest. Ideally placing the microphone inside your shirt will give optimum performance as this reduces wind noise.
5. The TX650 headset is supplied in two variations:
Type 1 is the over ear hook. This unit is placed by hooking the unit over the ear with the speaker placed in the ear canal. The unit is then adjusted for a snug fit. Ensure adequate cable to allow for head turn and body movement and secure to the shirt with the cable clamp.
Type 2 is the airtube and moulded ear insert. Place the moulded ear insert into the ear with curved section to the back of the ear. (Ensure you are using the correct ear mould for the left or right ear). The ear mould should fit snugly within the ear cartilage. Gently hold the ear mould in place and loop the air tube over and behind the ear. Secure the air tube to your collar using the supplied clip ensuring that there is a little tension on the tubing. This will keep it in place without the need for tapes. (When you first use this product a mirror or assistance may be required until you achieve the correct "fit", however this is quickly mastered.)
6. Check for correct operation. To transmit, press the water resistant switch and talk in a normal voice. A momentary pause is recommended before speaking to ensure the complete message is transmitted. Listen to an incoming message and adjust the volume using the ▲and ▼buttons on the unit.
7. Close the flap on the belt to minimize moisture exposure.
8. Should a problem occur please consult the Troubleshooting Guide.
WARNING: Hearing damage can occur if the unit volume is too high. Start with the minimal volume and increase until an acceptable level is reached.

L & W Sports Communications Continuous Microphone
Instruction Guide
**Handy hints for continuous microphone usage**
The new GME TX 650 Compact UHF Radio can be used for the transmission of a continuous "Open Microphone" from the referee to the coach or video link. This is achieved by using an "Open Microphone" unit from L & W Sports Communications Pty Ltd and a second radio.
With the sometimes unpredictable nature of UHF transmission, care should be taken when using this system to prevent unwanted interference to the Referee / Touch Judge communications. Following extensive research it is suggested that, when using an "open microphone", the radio frequency settings should be set on the lower frequencies whereas the Referee / Touch Judge settings should be higher. The unit MUST be set on "low power".
For example:
Open Microphone (Channel 9) = Referee / Touch Judge (Channel 25 to30)
Open Microphone (Channel 10) = Referee / Touch Judge (Channel 26 to 31)
Open Microphone (Channel 12) = Referee / Touch Judge (Channel 26 to 32)
Our research has shown these are the best 3 combinations to use.
It is best to avoid all channels below 9 as these are repeater channels and used by UHF enthusiasts to communicate long distance. Channel 11 is a call channel and should not be used.
You will need to trial the channels in your area as UHF channel usage varies across the country and within each state.
